Future Problem Solving
Working in teams, students learn and apply a six-step process which provides them with the tools to tackle problems which they will meet throughout their life. Throughout the year, students apply the process to consider the challenges and issues contained within complex social and scientific problems to be faced in the future or tackle existing problems in their own communities.
The programme encourages students to:
- carry out in-depth research
- think creatively and critically,
- apply ethical thinking skills
- and work as part of a team.
This year at Avondale, we are starting FPS with the Middle Division – Years 9 and 10 – and learning the FPS process. In 2011 Year 11 students will be able to enter the Senior Division with the chance to go to national and international competitions. We want to give students a chance to challenge themselves and learn powerful thinking tools.
Successful FPS'ers are creative, critical thinkers, team players and are willing to attend during lunchtimes and occasionally after school for the experiences that FPS will provide.
"To dream and to plan, to be curious about the future and to wonder how much it can be influenced by our efforts are important aspects of being human." Dr. E. Paul Torrance (The Founder of FPS)
