Food and Soft Materials Technology
This department focuses on four areas of Technology, which are as follows:
- Food Technology - Years 9 to 13
- Soft Materials Technology - Years 9 to 13
- Early Childhood Education - NCEA Level 2 & Level 3 - Unitec is our provider
- Hospitality and Catering - Level 1 & Level 2 - Hospitality Standard Institute is our provider.
The Hospitality course introduces students to the exciting and progressive hospitality and catering industry. It gives students the knowledge and skills they need to prepare and present food in safe and hygienic environment.
Food and Soft Materials Technology aims to develop in students a broad technological literacy that will equip them to participate in society as informed citizens. Students learn practical skills as they develop models, products, and systems.
The Early Childhood Education course builds students knowledge and skills in the education and care of young children in early childhood settings. This course aims to prepare students to advance into higher level early childhood education and care.
The department is staffed by seven permanent full time technology teachers and one technician, and classes are held in our new purpose-built technology building.
