HOSTING AN
INTERNATIONAL STUDENT
Avondale College welcomes students from all over the world, and having the opportunity to live with a “Kiwi” family is an invaluable part of their experience. Our hope is that families will provide a positive experience for our students and at the same time enjoy the enriching experience of hosting a student from another culture.
REQUIREMENTS

All host parents must be over 25 years old.

Students must have their own bedroom within the house (they cannot share a room with anyone, and cannot live in a sleepout/separate space from the house)

Provide your student with three meals a day and access to snacks.

At least one host parent must have a full drivers licence and their own vehicle

A safe and friendly living and studying environment.

Make the student feel comfortable and like they are part of the family.
HOMESTAY PAYMENTS

Homestay payments are currently $330 per week, paid fortnightly. This will increase to $350 per week from 6 July 2024.

Fortnightly payments are paid by the school to you on a Friday, one week in advance and one week in arrears.

All homestay payments are made through Avondale College and will be in the form of direct credit into a bank account provided by the homestay family.

When a student is away for a period of 10 nights or more, a holding fee of $10 per night will be paid for the duration of the absence instead of the normal payment.
APPLICATION/SELECTION PROCEDURE

Complete a homestay assessment interview with all host parents present.

Agree to a police vetting check on all persons aged 18 years or over residing in the house.

Supply at least two character references for Avondale College to check.

Sign a Homestay Carer agreement with Avondale College.
