OUR PROGRAMME
Our International Programme caters for students who come for both long term and short term stays.
Our school's academic focus provides a solid foundation for those who are focusing on gaining qualifications for university entrance, and our extensive co-curricular programme ensures plenty of opportunities for those who are seeking a fun cultural exchange!
Regardless of whether you are planning on coming for a short or a long time, the experience will give you the opportunity to develop independence and maturity - as well as the chance to make friends from all over the world!
NEW ZEALAND SCHOOL YEAR
The New Zealand school year begins in January and ends in December. The academic year is broken into four ten-week terms with a two week holiday in between, and six weeks at the end of the year.
ACADEMIC PROGRAMME
International students are integrated into Avondale College's mainstream classes, and there are timetabled ESOL classes for those who need more support with the English language. Senior students have the opportunity of following NCEA or Cambridge qualification pathways.
ACTIVITY PROGRAMME (NOVEMBER)
Students who come in the second semester (July onwards) have the opportunity to take part in our two-week Avondale College Activity Programme which runs in November when domestic students are on examination leave. Activities are a mixture of school-based and out-of-school activities, such as whale watching, wind-surfing, rock-climbing and more.
EXTRA TRIPS
Our International Department facilitates a number of different trips during weekends and school holidays that give students the opportunity to visit some of the famous tourist attractions of our beautiful country. Costs for these trips are additional.
