Avondale College is delighted to welcome Mr Alvin Chand to the position of Deputy Principal this year.
Mr Chand was formerly the Head of the Science faculty and Director of the Health Academy at James Cook High School, with his primary teaching subject being Physics. He has been an active member of both the Science NCEA Subject Expert Group and the Pacific Panel for the Ministry of Education. Mr Chand has recently submitted his PhD thesis, which researched enablers and barriers for Pacific learners in accessing science education. He is passionate about the success of young people in the New Zealand education system and is committed to ongoing learning for teachers.
Mr Chand was formally welcomed, along with a number of other staff new to Avondale College, at a special pōwhiri held on Friday last week.
