Back-to-back netball champions - again!

Avondale College's Premier Netball Team have won not one, but two local netball championships this week, following victories in the finals of both the West Auckland Secondary Schools Netball competition on Tuesday, and the Lucca Trailer Secondary Schools netball competition on Wednesday! Even more impressively, this is the second year running that our girls have claimed the trophies in both competitions!

The girls comprehensively won the WASSC Senior Prem 1 final against Waitakere College, with a 50-32 victory at Te Pai courts on Tuesday. Then the following night they headed out to St Johns, where they played Saint Kentigern's Premier team, in the finals of New Zealand's largest secondary schools netball competition. This was a much closer match - with the scoreboard in Saint Kent's favour in the first quarter before Avondale fought back to take the lead - just! The strong Saint Kents side managed to equalise at times but not quite pull ahead again in the next three quarters. Supported by a large crowd in black and white, Avondale were able to hold onto their one point lead at the end, winning 37-38.

Also winning their grade at the WASSC competition on Tuesday was our Prem 2 team which won against Rutherford in a nail-biting 39-38 final. Our Senior Black team came runners up in their grade, losing narrowly to Lynfield College's Prem 2 team in the Senior B finals; with the final score, 16-18.

Congratulations to all the girls, their coaches - and their large team of supporters who have cheered them on throughout the 2023 season!

Next up for the Prem teams is the UNISS championships next week - we wish them all the best as they take on the top teams from the upper North Island!
