Playing the lead role of Velma Kelly in Avcol's upcoming production of Chicago - High School EditionĀ - is talented Year 12 student, Lora Praveen Gattu.
A seasoned performer, Lora began singing as a child at Telugu Christian events. She says she loves performing because of the fun atmosphere it creates. "Singing allows me to express myself in various ways creatively," she says.
Lora has brought her vocal talents to a number of different Avondale College bands during her time at school - including contemporary band ADSoul10 and the Blue Note jazz combo. Stepping into the singing/acting/dancing role of Chicago's Velma Kelly allows her to bring these other creative performance strands together.
"Velma is a very fierce and boss-lady type of character," says Lora. "I love playing her because sheās like the complete opposite of me at times, but also so relatable."
Ā For Lora, one of the highlights of being part of the school show has been making new connections with others in the cast. "It's great to be able to share the same joy of performing with others," she says.
