Our Gospel Choir lit up the stage at Auckland Town Hall last week at "The Big Sing" Choral Competition. In news just announced, their standout performance has secured them a place at the prestigious Upper North Island Cadenza festival in Rotorua.

Delivering a powerful and thoughtfully curated programme, the choir captivated both audience and judges alike. Highlights included the stunning O Lo’u Malu O Ia by Helen Tupai and the deeply moving He Kākano Ahau by Hohepa Te Rangi Tamehana of Tūhoe.

They also brought a fresh, heartfelt energy to Moemoeā - a te reo Māori adaptation of Neil Finn’s 1986 classic Don’t Dream It’s Over, translated by Erena Koopu and beautifully arranged by Raymah Matāfai. The set reached a peak with an energetic rendition of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, arranged by Mark Brymer. Taking on such a technically demanding and well known song with confidence left a lasting impression on everyone in the room.

Earning a place at the Upper North Island Cadenza is a remarkable achievement and a true reflection of the choir’s passion, commitment, and exceptional talent.

And they’re not done yet! The choir returns to the stage tonight (Wednesday 24 June from 6pm) as part of our Jazz & Soul Showcase in the College Atrium. Joining them will be several award-winning musical acts for what promises to be an unforgettable evening. Entry is by gold coin donation - everyone is warmly invited!
