K-Pop group ends 2026 on a high note

On the last Friday of the school holidays, our ADK Dance Crew competed in the K-Beat National Dance Competition at Kristin School in Albany. The competition was organised by Rina Chae, who has performed alongside international artists Beyoncé and Justin Bieber. Rina now shares her expertise through En Beat Academy and directs K-pop Live nationwide.

Led by our talented Year 13 Dance Leaders Shanaya Krishna, Mika Gunning and Deevah Eti, ADK Dance Crew has worked diligently throughout the year to prepare for this competition. Having been part of the crew since Year 9, this competition marked a special milestone for the three leaders as their final time competing for Avondale College. The crew finished the year on a high, taking out the K Mega Division Championship!

Alongside being crowned champions, the team was awarded a trophy and a $500 cash prize in recognition of their outstanding performance.

“Winning first place honestly felt so surreal!" shares Shanaya. "We’ve all put so much time and effort into this piece, so being able to see it pay off was such a rewarding feeling. I’m so proud of everyone in ADK, and I couldn’t have asked for a better way to end our 2026 dance season!”

Congratulations to our dance leaders and all members of the dance crew for their hard work, commitment and dedication throughout the year. A special thank you to Miss Lorraine Wu, Teacher in Charge of ADK Dance Crew, for her tireless work, guidance and support. We also extend our appreciation to our parents and whānau for their ongoing encouragement and support of our students.

We are so proud of their fantastic achievement, which provides a memorable finish to the 2026 dance season!
