Mental Health Awareness Week

Our Guidance Counsellors and Safe School Leaders put on a series of fun activities in the atrium recently to mark Mental Health Awareness Week, helping students connect, have fun, and learn more about looking after their wellbeing.
Activities included a push-up competition, a skipping challenge, giant Jenga, a "mood check" board where students could post a cartoon representation of their current mood, and a compliment board where students could write encouraging messages to one another. Adding to the vibrant atmosphere, several music ensembles performed throughout the event.
"When we bring mental health conversations into the open at Avondale College, it helps break down the stigma," shares Safe School Leader Dana Al-A'Raj (Year 10). "It's important to hold days like these. It normalises talking about wellbeing and reminds students that it's always okay to ask for help when they need it, and that their mental health is just as significant, if not more so, than their schoolwork."
Through a combination of fun activities, opportunities for connection, positive messaging, and information about where to seek support, the event that reinforced the importance of community and looking after one another.
