Open Evening draws crowds

Avondale College welcomed prospective students and their families last Wednesday for Open Evening, giving visitors a taste of the many learning opportunities, co-curricular activities, and community connections that make our school unique.

Guests were serenaded upon entry by musical groups (including the Gospel Choir, Swing 46 and Blue Note jazz combos and the Chamber Orchestra), and throughout the evening, were guided around the campus by our prefects, meeting staff and students, and experiencing firsthand a taste of Avcol life.

Departments across the school transformed their learning spaces into interactive experiences. The Science Department proved especially popular, with hands-on demonstrations including bubbles being set on fire, air pressure experiments, and the use of sheep lungs to explain human respiration. Visitors also enjoyed games and activities in Languages, while Social Sciences brought learning to life through cultural and historical dress-up opportunities.

Music and performance were highlights throughout the evening. Live bands showcased the talents of Avondale's young musicians, the Dance Department impressed audiences with a variety of routines, and Drama Academy students entertained crowds with theatresports games that drew plenty of laughter and applause.

The Open Evening also provided valuable opportunities for families to speak with teachers, ask questions about subjects and future pathways, and learn more about the many academic, sporting, cultural, and leadership opportunities available at the college.

Since the event, the school has received numerous messages of thanks from families, many of whom specifically praised our students for their friendliness, confidence, and willingness to engage with visitors.

The evening was a wonderful celebration of our school community and a testament to the talent, dedication, and pride of both staff and students. Thank you to everyone who helped make the event such a success and ensured our visitors experienced the very best of Avondale College.

A reminder for families considering enrolment at Avondale College: in-zone enrolment applications are due this week, while out-of-zone applications must be received by 4pm Wednesday 2 September.
