Around 1600 students have taken part in Stand Up Stand Out (SUSO), the Auckland-wide music and dance competition, and Avondale College has once again had some great success in the preliminary rounds of the competition.
Three of our contemporary bands - 7CZN, Blue Nurse and ADSOUL10 - participated in the heats on 15 August, performing to a high standard. We were delighted to hear that ADSOUL10 has secured a place in the semi-finals, which will take place this Saturday at the Auckland Town Hall Concert Chamber. With three of their singers performing with the Gospel Choir in Wellington this weekend, ADSOUL10 will continue with a new lineup of three singers, adding an extra vocalist to complete the group.
Three of our Year 13 singers - Chonnipa Champkavan, Sylvia Tagaloa-Leniu and Praise Tupa'i - have also successfully advanced to the semi-finals in the Vocal Solo category, as well as pianist Louis Di Biasio, who entered the solo instrument competition with an original classical piano composition. We look forward to them all representing our school in the next round of the competition, and wish them the very best for Saturday!
Meanwhile, three Avondale College acts have already gained direct entry to the Finals Showcase, which will be held at the Auckland Town Hall on 14 September at 3pm. They are the Avondale College Gospel Choir in the Group Vocals category; and in the Dance category, Pasifika Mai and the Avondale College Dance Crew, ACDC!
