A fantastically talented group of Year 13 students entered the 48Hours Filmmaking Competition last weekend! Tasked with planning, scripting, shooting, and editing a short film all in less than two days, these senior Media Studies students were based at school from 7pm Friday 31 July until midday Sunday 2 August. The catch, apart from the time crunch, is that you don't know what you're making until that 7pm launch time...
Our genre? Classic film noir or neo noir. The elements we had to include? A rumour, an extreme close up or macro shot, an interruption, and a portrait. Thankfully, 13MST are well-versed in film noir, as it's the genre we study throughout the course. This gave us a huge advantage, and the result was a sleek, enticing, and phenomenally made short film about a murder which wasn't as simple as it seemed. Filming ranged from night scenes outside the gym and whare, to interrogation interiors in the backrooms of A Block, all brought to life by our awesome student cast and crew.
Congratulations to all involved on an amazing entry into this cornerstone competition of filmmaking in Aotearoa!
