Student Media Team celebrates student success

We've re-established our Student Media Team (SMT) and welcomed loads of new talent!

Made up of 30 students from across a range of year levels, the SMT brings together a diverse group of talented young creatives with skills and interests in photography, videography, journalism, graphic design, and social media content creation. The team's role is to help capture and share the stories and successes of their peers.

Year 11 students and SMT leaders Tarangkini Sarveswaran and Izzabelle Chong approached the Communications Team earlier last term with a comprehensive pitch about what the SMT could look like in 2026.

"There's so much going on at the school, so many opportunities to get involved, that we don't want anything to get missed," explains Tarangkini.

"Having messages come from students, to students, is a really good way to get people engaged," adds Izzabelle.

The proposal impressed the Communications Team and was quickly given the green light.

The SMT works closely with the Communications Team to develop content, build skills, and provide authentic student perspectives on life at Avondale College. Although the team is at capacity, the team is keen to hear ideas from the wider Avondale College community.

If you know of a student achievement, inspiring story, event, or project that deserves recognition, the SMT is keen to hear about it! Simply email Communications Assistant Miss Clearwater at zclr@avcol.school.nz with your story idea or pitch. If it aligns with the team's criteria, one of our Student Media Team members will be assigned to cover it and help share it with the wider school community.
